December 01 Balik kampungI always love my visits home to my parents' house in PD.
My friend says we become the "Dowager" when we are in our parents' house although we are now mothers ourselves.
In my parents' house, I do not have to cook my meals, I just say "I am hungry" and food will magically appear.
When I was pregnant, I was constantly hot and lo and behold ... daddy installed an air-cond to shut me up.
When I am tired, mummy will say "Go to sleep, I will take care of Ryan"
When I want to watch a programme which clashes with daddy, he will grunt and reluctantly give in to me.
I my parents' house, I do not have to sweep the floor, mop the floor, wash the bathroom, clean the mess, throw the rubbish, make the bed, fold the clothes, pay the bills etc. etc.
Yes, to me balik kampung is like an escapade. Some people go to the spa, some people go for massages ... I just go back to good old PD and I am relaxed.
And the funny thing is that when I was staying with them, these things were all taken for granted.
We always assumed that our parents will be there for us, that it is their duty to take care of us and sometimes we lose sight of the love that they are showering on us.
So friends, for those of you who are still staying with your parents, be thankful and appreciative .... although sometimes our mother's nagging and our father's constant complaints can annoy us quite a bit.
For those who, like me, have gone to another city "in search of a better life", make sure you keep in touch with your parents ... they deserve so much more than what we can ever repay.
