October 27 Hypo-ThyroidAbout a month ago, I "forced" hubby to go for a blood test, thinking that his glucose level is defintely high since he has a thing for sweet things.
So we went and at the clinic, I suddenly said that I will also do it. 3 days after that, the results came out - I have hypo-thyroid and a little anaemic while hubby was A PERFECT 10!!
2 weeks later, I went for a full thyroid screen and it confirmed my condition. And so, my trip to the endocrinologist was made.
After an ultrascan to confirm it is multi nodular (and therefore not cancerous), I started out on a medication.
Doctors said they cannot determine if it is a permanent thing or a temporary thing (as a result of my pregnancy), so I will have to go back in 6 weeks' time to take more blood to see if my T4 levels have bounced back.
Apparently some can go on for one year and then taken off the medication, some have to take it for life!
The symptoms of hypo-thyroid are:
1) Lethargic (no wonder I feel so so tired)
2) Weight gain as a result of water retention (that was why I gained 5 kgs in 2 weeks, scary!)
3) Hair loss (some old woman told me it was because my kid started to smile!)
4) Puffy skin (thought it was because I was getting fat!)
5) Skin flakiness (thought I used wrong facial wash, so bought a face serum which cost me a HUGE bomb!)
So now, I have been getting the medication for a week now and have noticed that my energy levels are recovering although I am still a little stuck with the weight thingy.
Doctor has assured me that all my symptoms will disappear after a while ... so am still looking for that day to come. Wish me luck!
